Cycling Cultures

Cycling Cultures was an ESRC funded multi-method sociological research project led by Dr Rachel Aldred. The research focused on four relatively high-cycling cities (Hull, Hackney, Bristol, Cambridge) in the UK in order to find out why cycling thrives in particular areas. It was based at the Sustainable Mobilities Group in the School of Law and Social Sciences at the University of East London.

I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2010-11) and my role involved conducting ethnographic and interview based research in all four fieldsites, analysing data for various outputs and designing/managing the project website/blogs. Outcomes included book chapters and journal articles, videos, exhibitions and reports, research zines, and 100 Bike Portraits.
